About the Higher Ed Scholar in Training

Hi Everybody – my name is Vivechkanand Chunoo (but everyone calls me “V”) and I am a third year doctoral student in the higher education program. I’m originally from New York, but I lived in Miami for 25 years prior to coming to FSU. I have a Bachelors degree in Psychobiology and a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling, both from the University of Miami, where I also worked for ten years as an academic and career advisor. In my last four years at Miami, I also served as the Academic Ombudsperson for the university.

Currently, I am a research assistant for Dr. Kathy Guthrie through the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies. My research interests include undergraduate student leadership development, with a focus on first-generation students, students of lower-SES, and those from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds. More recently, I have become interested in practices and policies that affect the undergraduate experience of undocumented students, factors that affect faculty (especially graduate faculty), and the doctoral student experience.

I certainly intend for this experiment to be helpful not only in the Web 2.0 course I’m taking, but also a longer-term foray into the Web 2.0 world.
